This course equips teachers with practical strategies such as clear modelling, purposeful questioning, and metacognitive approaches to deepen understanding and boost engagement. With a focus on strong content planning, meaningful practice, and collaborative learning, it helps staff deliver lessons that are both accessible and challenging.

Teachers will also learn how to make effective use of support staff, resources, and assessment for learning to ensure every pupil makes sustained progress through well-targeted, inclusive teaching.

How this course aligns with DfE expectations for Quality First Teaching
The Department for Education places high-quality teaching at the centre of effective classroom practice. The SEND Code of Practice highlights that teaching which is well-planned, differentiated, and responsive to pupil needs should meet the needs of the majority of learners, with additional support only required when this is not sufficient.

This course supports teachers in strengthening the core elements of Quality First Teaching, helping them deliver lessons that are ambitious, inclusive, and accessible for all pupils. Through a focus on clear explanations, modelling, purposeful questioning, and effective assessment, teachers develop practical approaches that promote engagement, deepen understanding, and support sustained progress.
